Operatives of the Nigerian Army from the 144 Battalion in Aba, Abia State, has arrested one Miss Chizara Monday, 26, and one Udochukwu Chigbu, 25, for allegedly stealing a baby boy named Miracle, and selling him for N400,0000 at Aboh Mbaise in Imo State.

Monday and Chigbu are from Umugo Oloko in the Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State and Adam Okolomo in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, respectively.

A statement by the Army Public Relations Officer, 14 Brigade, Major O. J. Gbadamosi, indicated that the suspects were arrested by soldiers on internal security patrol following a tip-off.

Gbadamosi added that in the course of investigation, a raid was carried out by soldiers in conjunction with the operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons.

He stated that one Mrs Rose Onyia, 38, and one Miss Kasarachi Uba, 27, from Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, were also arrested for alleged child trafficking.

The army spokesman added that the raid led to the rescue of five underage children and four pregnant ladies.

Gbadamosi said, “The suspects and their victims have been handed over to the appropriate agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.

“Members of the general public are urged to kindly report any suspicious movements or criminality within their domain to the security agencies without delay.”
